History:The Chihuahua received its name from the northern part of Mexico bearing the same name as the region that borders on the Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico boundary lines. Although there is much controversy over the history of this small dog it is commonly accepted that their past is trenched in the ancient Mesoamerica. Archeologists have found records of their ancestors as far back as 5th Century AD throughout central and southern Mexico and extending down into South America as well. During the era of the Toltecs and Aztecs this little dog was also very important in their lives not only as pets but also served as guides for the human soul. This breed does come in two varieties; The Smooth Coated Chihuahua and the Long Coated Chihuahua.
