Powder Puff Grooming video by Fernando Martinez
The handlers/groomers/owners in these videos demonstrate how they would use the Pure Paws product line with their dogs. You may even notice sometimes that different handlers use different techniques when bathing & grooming. There are many ways to combine the products to acheive the look that is right for your dog. If you want more information on the individual products and what they can do for your dog please look at the Product Information page or email us at info@purepaws.net
Grooming the Powder Puff
Dilute the Reconstructing Shampoo 1 part shampo to 8 parts water. Wet the coat, apply shampoo and lather. Rinse with warm water and bathe a second time. This will help remove excess oils and debris from the coat. This shampoo is great for hydrating the coat. If you need a heavier shampoo try the Oatmeal & Aloe Vera Shampoo.

The conditioning of the Powder Puff coat is very important and using the proper conditioners for your coat type can make all the difference in the out come of your dog's final look. If you are not sure about your dog's coat texture send us an email to info@purepaws.ne

Dilute the Moisturizing Conditioner 1 part conditioner to 8 parts water. Distribute through out the coat evenly. Do not apply to the head (top knot) on show days. Let the conditioner sit in the coat for 3 minutes, run a little bit of warm water through the coat so that the conditioner penetrates all the way to the base of the coat. Run your fingers gently through the coat to assure that the conditioner has penetrated. Rinse with cool water.

For a heavier conditioner you can add 2 Tbs of Silk Cream to the mixture or a couple of drops of Light Oil.

Cover the dog with a small towel and apply pressure to the coat to absorb the excess water. Do not rub the dog dry. Take care to not apply pressure to the back when drying the coat with a towel. To acheive a nice finish to the coat when drying use a small hand help drier and finish drying the coat on a warm setting. While line drying the coat spary a small amout of the Shine Conditioning Spray into the coat.

Flat Iron & Trim the Coat
For the finishing show touches flat iron the coat with the Finishing Show Spray. This will add that luster to the coat and acheive the maximum amount of lenghth. For trimming the coat we recommend the 7" Straight Cobalt Shears. A great shear will give you a great trim without any nicking. This will prevent splitting of the hair shafts.
Dilute the Reconstructing Shampoo 1 part shampo to 8 parts water. Wet the coat, apply shampoo and lather. Rinse with warm water and bathe a second time. This will help remove excess oils and debris from the coat.

AKC Standard for the Coat

Coat
The Hairless variety has hair on certain portions of the body: the head (called a crest), the tail (called a plume) and the feet from the toes to the front pasterns and rear hock joints (called socks). The texture of all hair is soft and silky, flowing to any length. Placement of hair is not as important as overall type. Areas that have hair usually taper off slightly. Wherever the body is hairless, the skin is soft and smooth. Head Crest begins at the stop and tapers off between the base of the skull and the back of the neck. Hair on the ears and face is permitted on the Hairless and may be trimmed for neatness in both varieties. Tail Plume is described under Tail. The Powderpuff variety is completely covered with a double soft and silky coat. Close examination reveals long thin guard hairs over the short silky undercoat. The coat is straight, of moderate density and length. Excessively heavy, kinky or curly coat is to be penalized. Grooming is minimal-consisting of presenting a clean and neat appearance.
